Rav Asi רב אסי

First-generation Bavel amora of Hutzal, the colleague who sat with Rav in the first days of the Bavel academies. The printed Bavli also writes רב אסי in chains that quote Rabbi Yochanan, where the classical discussion suspects רבי אסי is meant; this atlas attributes per the printed letter, as with רבא/רבה.

Chains printed אמר רב אסי transmit Rabbi Yochanan 23 times and Rav 4 times across the Bavli in this atlas's mining. rabbinic ★★★★★
Printed רב אסי and רבי אסי are kept distinct by the letter of the text, although the classical discussion holds that many רב אסי chains quoting Rabbi Yochanan really carry רבי אסי; attribution follows the print, and this entry absorbs that known instability.
Same policy as רבא/רבה: attribute per the printed text, flag the instability, never silently merge.
reconstruction ★★☆☆☆
No source dates Rav Asi directly; the AM span shown is a schematic reconstruction anchored to Rav's generation, as his early colleague in Bavel.
Schematic generational placement, not an attested date. A dated attestation, if one can be verified, should supersede this.
