"And after Mar Rav Avraham, this Mar Rav Yosef reigned in the year [1]139 [828 CE], seven years."
The "seven years" evidently count his earlier co-gaonate as well: the next accession (Yitzchak, [1]144 = 833) closes this tenure at five; the successor's anchor is followed.
tradition ★★★★☆
No source names his teacher. Per this atlas's succession roster, Rav Yosef bar Shila and Rav Kahana bar Chaninai held the headship of his academy during his formative window (c. 4553–4573 AM), making reception from them the likeliest reconstruction.
Derived by era-and-institution inference, not attested. The formative window is computed from this entry's schematic dates, hence the low confidence.
