Moshe ben Kalonymus רבי משה בן קלונימוס
Progenitor of Ashkenaz in the tradition's own telling: the paytan of the Kalonymus family whom "King Karl" brought from Lucca to Mainz, carrying Italian piyyut and the esoteric prayer-lore that the Chasidei Ashkenaz would later guard.
