One of the rabbanan savorai named in the Iggeret's death-roll of the generation after hora'ah ended — descendant of the Rabbah bar Avuha who carried Nehardea's Torah to Machoza; he died on a stormy Yom Kippur. Sherira records for the first savoraim little beyond their deaths — most of them 'within a few years' — and this entry preserves exactly that.

Chronology forbids making this Acha's father the third-century amora himself (they stand two and a half centuries apart): the father was a later bearer of the ancestral name.
