Champagne village a day's walk from Troyes where Rashi's daughter Yocheved and R' Meir ben Shmuel settled, and where their son Rabbeinu Tam kept the school from which the Tosafot spread — attacked by Crusaders in 1147, who wounded Rabbeinu Tam and were persuaded to spare him.
